Lovely news came out from the last edition of Cartoon Movie (5 – 7 March 2019, Bordeaux) the European’s biggest forum for pitching & co-production for animated feature films. During this 21st edition, participants voted the winners of the Cartoon Tributes, the awards for outstanding contribution to the development of European Animation over the last year.
Director Salvador Simó (Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles), production company Submarine and distributor Sola Media have won the Tributes Awards, a symbol of the professional recognition from their peers.
During the 2018 edition, the prize as Directors of the year went to Dorota Kobiela (Poland) and Hugh Welchman (UK) for Loving Vincent, and the year before to Claude Barras for My Life as a Courgette (Switzerland).
So innovation is always well appreciated, as much as the topic told in the feature: Simó shows, in his project, how Buñuel found his creative voice (a mix of surrealist spirit and social criticism).
Buñuel moreover is Simó’s solo feature debut, so which best beginning for a movie that shows already a good appealing on the critics of the world?!
Really bravo to all the winners, and thanks for the positive and dynamic influence on the animation feature film industry.
